My Victory in Christ: A Song Born at a Bus Stop in Tampa

Have you ever had a song that became a lifeline—not because it fixed anything, but because it reminded you who God is when you couldn’t see past the pain?

This is the story of how one song, born at a bus stop in Tampa, became my anchor in the aftermath of healing.

The Morning Everything Changed (And Nothing Changed)

I was standing at the bus stop in Tampa, Florida early one morning, only a few months after being healed of Dissociative Identity Disorder. The aftermath of that healing had left me reeling, but I kept my face set on the Lord. He had told me to leave everything and return to Tampa to finish Bible school, so I held to His word.

Fighting back tears, I sang my prayer. Again and again, I sang it—and as I did, strength returned. Peace settled in. The promises of God rose to the surface, reminding me how temporary the struggles of this world are in light of eternity.

This song is one of the handful—out of the hundreds I’ve written—that has carried me in seasons of need, celebration, gratitude, and remembrance.

What Changed (And What Didn’t)

Here’s the important part: nothing changed in that moment.

The circumstances remained. The bus was still late. I was still broke. I was still processing the wreckage that years of D.I.D. had left in my life.

But my focus shifted to the only One who could sustain me.

It took years to walk through the havoc D.I.D. had caused, but returning my gaze to Him helped me emerge from something that could have crushed me. The song didn’t change my circumstances—it changed my focus. And when your focus is fixed on Christ, the battle looks different.

The Anchor Scriptures

These are the verses that held me when I couldn’t hold myself:

“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”
— Zechariah 4:6

“If God is for us, who can be against us? … Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
— Romans 8:31, 35, 37

Victory isn’t found in your might or power. It’s found in Christ’s finished work.

My Victory

I set my affection upon You
Set my heart to seek Your face
Clothed in Your glory and righteousness
I’m running the heavenly race

This is the victory that I know
the battle is already won
Evil may try to find me
but I'm hidden in the Son
and we are one

I am in You
You are in me
I am in You
You are in me

You are my Victor
You are my Victor
You are my victory
Jesus, You are my victory
