Where Do We Place Our Trust Part 1

Isaiah 31:1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord.

The natural mind seeks out what LOOKS strong, reliable, and trustworthy. It assumes that these are the best sources of help, even when they come from a place of former bondage, shame, and torment. In times of desperation, it is easy to rely on our natural senses.

But God invites us, even urges us, to look to Him and seek Him for help in times of need. He reminds us over and over again to rely on and trust in His unfailing love for us; His unparalleled strength; His limitless ability. He calls us to look beyond what we see with our natural eyes, understand with our natural minds, and remember where our help and hope truly come from.

Rather than looking back to bondage, He longs for us to look to Him – the unfailing, victorious King of glory Who breaks through for us into freedom and life.

He invites us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2) and to train our spiritual senses to rightly direct and inform our physical senses and the understanding of our soul through purely natural insight so that we can live in the mind of Christ and see from His perspective. He is our Source of all things and delights in that role! May we invest the time and effort to learn to draw from His boundless reservoirs of promise and provision rather than looking anxiously about us for anyone who might help, no matter the cost.

Psalm 20:1-9 NASB1995 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob set you securely on high! May He send you help from the sanctuary and support from Zion! May He remember all your meal offerings and find your burnt offering acceptable! Selah May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your counsel! We will sing for joy over your victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions. Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer from His holy heaven with the saving grace of His right hand. Some boast in chariots and some in horses, but we will boast in the name of the LORD our God. They have bowed down and fallen, but we have risen and stood upright. Save, O LORD; May the King answer us in the day we call.
