Calling to Mind Our Victory in Christ

I was standing at the bus stop in Tampa, FL early in the morning. I had only been healed of Dissociative Identity Disorder a little over 3 months and I was dealing with the repercussions of that, which were many. It had me reeling but I was determined to keep my face set on the Lord, Who had told me to leave everything and come back to Tampa to finish Bible School.

Fighting back tears, I sang my prayer.

Again and again, I sang it. The more I sang, the stronger I felt. The more I sang, the deeper my peace. The more I sang, the more I remembered the promises of God and how very transient the things of this world are in light of eternity.

I come back to this song often. It’s one of a handful of the hundreds I’ve written that arise and flow in times of need but also in times of celebration, gratitude, and remembrance of Him who is my Promise and my Victory.

Here’s the thing to remember. Things did not improve in that moment. Nothing changed. Except where I placed my attention and focus. It took years to walk through the impact the havoc of D.I.D. had caused in my life, but because of this song and songs like it, redirecting my attention to the only One who could fix it, I was able to come out on the other side of something that could have been devastating.

Today, my devotional reading reminded me that He has set His affection upon me and the song rose fresh in my heart.

Maybe you’re going through something right now that feels like a never-ending wilderness wrought with difficulty and landmines and you feel alone and powerless. Maybe you’re struggling to find purpose and hope. Maybe you’re starting this new year and you’re just tired. I pray the lyrics encourage and empower you, reminding you where your victory lies. Not by your might or power (Zechariah 4:6) but in your unity with Christ through His blood and His righteousness, which has already overcome (Romans 8:31-39). May you find rest and renewed hope today in your victory that lies in the presence of the Victorious One.

MY VICTORY

I set my affection upon You
Set my heart to seek Your face
Clothed in Your glory and righteousness
I’m running the heavenly race

This is the victory that I know
the battle is already won
Evil may try to find me
but I’m hidden in the Son
and we are one

I am in You
You are in me
I am in You
You are in me

You are my Victor
You are my Victor
You are my victory
Jesus, You are my victory
